These ministries enable persons to experience God’s presence, build knowledge and skills for discipleship, receive and express support, and participate in service in Christ’s name. This is done through Sunday School, youth groups and small group studies.

Responsibilities of this ministry team include:
  • Providing for the preservation of all records and historical materials no longer in current use;
  • Promoting interest in the history and heritage of The United Methodist Church and of our congregation;
  • Assisting the pastor and others in the annual observance of Heritage Sunday and in the celebration of significant anniversaries; and
  • Helping those who wish to do research in our church’s records.

The aim of the ministry of evangelism is to relate people to God so that they will begin an initial relationship with Jesus Christ and lead new Christians into a process of ongoing discipleship and spiritual formation.


Nurture
Perhaps the most urgently needed type of nurturing ministry today is simply assisting members of the congregation in their daily walk of faith. Members of a congregation need to know that others in the church care about them and pray for them. Having fun together (fellowship) is another way to provide joyous emotional support to all members of the congregation.

 

Lay Leadership Rev. Dr. Charles Spence
This ministry team identifies leadership qualities and nominates persons to positions of leadership and service. This team serves throughout the year to guide the Administrative council on matters regarding the leadership of the congregation other than employed staff.

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

This team oversees the library located in the church, maintaining the collection and ordering new books, magazines and other resources.

This ministry team is responsible for awarding post-high school and seminary scholarships, based on income from Centenary’s endowed scholarship funds.

This ministry team maintains a list of needs that is offered to families who are choosing a gift for the church in memory of a loved one.  When funds come in undesignated, the team recommends appropriate use of the money to the Board of Trustees.

This ministry team is responsible for telecasts of the Sunday worship service and for the other audio and video needs of the church, including the necessary equipment, volunteers and assistance to others with church projects involving audio, video or TV.

 

Endowment Committee
This team was created by the Church Conference to oversee the investment and expending of endowed funds and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

The council has primary responsibility for creating and sustaining the congregation’s plan for discipleship. They act as the administrative agency of the church conference.

Lay Members of Annual Conference – Jan Claassen & Judy Zabel 
Responsibilities of both the lay leader and the lay members of annual conference are:

  • interpreting the actions and programs of the annual conference and the general Church
  • communicating the vision and needs of the local church to the annual conference and general Church.
The lay leader has a primary focus in linking the local church and community.
The lay member of annual conference has a primary focus in linking the local church to the connectional United Methodist Church and God’s worldwide church.

A worship committee ensures that worship leaders have the tools they need to help the congregation offer their gifts in worship as fully and expressively as they can. This includes ushers, acolytes, musicians and altar guild. They work to understand any existing congregational policies for worship and to change or develop policies that may improve the vitality of the congregation’s worship.

The trustees together have several legal and administrative functions. These include:   Overseeing, maintaining, and supervising all local church property;  Receiving and administering all gifts made to the congregation; and  Making certain that all trust funds of the congregation are invested properly.


Staff-Parish Relations Committee – Chris Peters, Chairperson
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee is the administrative unit in a local church where staff and congregational interests come together to focus on the mission of the church. Every congregation must have a SPRC to build relationships among members of the congregation  and the staff that are most effective for accomplishing the mission and purpose of the church.

This ministry team is a vital connection between a needy world and our local church. Congregation members may then respond with prayer, concern, educational awareness, and the stewardship of their time, talents, and treasures.

The job of the finance ministry team is to identify, perfect, and manage the finance system for the congregation. The finance system is the processes of raising, managing, and dispersing the finances so that the mission and vision of the congregation can be achieved.

This ministry team is responsible for the church web site. They publish articles and media for visitors to the site. The web site provides an overview of the history, news and ministry of the people of Centenary United Methodist Church.
