Centenary has been a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity since it first started building homes in this area in 2000.  Many members participate in our annual Habitat fundraiser and our work day on each house, and several members volunteer much additional help with different phases of the home construction.  Two members of our congregation serve on the Board of Directors of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

  • Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser

The Outreach Ministry Team's preparation for our annual supper fundraiser for Habitat takes the first half of the year.  The fundraiser serves a meal to over 260 people and generates additional gifts and grants from Wal-Mart and other groups. It is held at the church during Homestead Days week in June each year.  The BBQ and salad have been purchased (Prepared by Classic Catering) with the rest of the meal donated by local businesses or church members.

In 2007 Centenary received Habitat's Silver Hammer Award for contributing more than $10,000 to the local chapter [pictured at the right].

  • Habitat for Humanity Work DayFramingDay

Outreach coordinates with Habitat to schedule a Saturday work day where volunteers from our church have framed the new Habitat house or installed drywall in the house.  The Outreach Team signs up volunteers, provides bottled water and provides a lunch for all workers at the building site.

  • What is Habitat?

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry.  Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses and sells them at cost to families in need.  Partner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, or "sweat equity," into building their house and houses of others.  Their interest-free monthly mortgage payments are used to help build still more Habitat houses.
